WiX toolset bug count after April 2nd, 2009.

Morale took a hit this week with the announcement that the WiX toolset will not be shipping in Visual Studio. Productivity was slightly affected but a couple noteworthy bugs in the WiX toolset were fixed. We also ended down one more bug at 21. Not bad for a pretty painful week.

First interesting bug was that Votive will no longer lock referenced assemblies. This was simply an annoying behavior that Jason fixed. Second, fallback languages were implemented in light. This addresses a long standing and very bothersome issue. Eric paid particular attention to the documentation for this fix, so check out the next drop of the WiX.chm's How To on localization.

I've been spending a considerable amount of my time thinking about the WiX v3 roadmap now that we are independent of Visual Studio 2010's schedule. I have a couple tentative plans in mind that I'm socializing with others. Expect an update soon.

Bug counts are intesting, but with no weekly release in 2+ weeks, I'm not sure how useful it is. It would probably be more valuable to spend time posting the weekly release rather then blogging about how much better it is. For me, it then takes me several more days to get the release through Security/CM off to the build team for integration into a test build. By the time I have a chance to see if my bug is truely fixed, SourceForge already comes by and automatically accepts it for me and closes it out as accepted.

@Christopher, very sorry. We'll fix the problem as soon as possible. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

@Christopher, also note that if you leave a comment on a closed bug it should re-open. The robot closes aggressively to encourage people to verify their bugs quickly. It is very unusual for the build to not be released.

The weekly releases list goes back to August 11. By my count there have been 35 weeks since that date. In that time there have been 21 releases posted. That is basically a 60% chance a given week will have it a release. Is that what you consider unusual? I'm not posting this to be snarky, I'm posting it as a metric to what I perceive to be a problem.

@Christopher, I understand. However, the August build date is actually WiX v2 RTM build. If you look at only the WiX v3 builds, you'll see that the weekly builds missed are holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, New Years). Something else has gone wrong in the last few weeks and we're investigating. The build is happening, the push to the release share is not.
