Today we release WiX Toolset v3.11. If you already installed v184.108.40.2061 from the weekly releases then you are already up to date. No need to do anything. For everyone else, here's why you might want to upgrade to WiX v3.11.
The primary focus of WiX v3.11 was Visual Studio 2017. So if/when you plan to move to Visual Studio 2017, you'll need to plan your WiX v3.11 (or later) upgrade. The Visual Studio team introduced some serious breaking changes in VS extensiblity that causes us to completely reevaluate how the WiX Toolset integrated with Visual Studio. The result is that the Burn based installer that you know and love now only installs the build tools. To get Visual Studio integration, you install the "WiX Toolset Visual Studio Extension" from the Visual Studio Marketplace (2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017).
This separation of build tools and IDE integration is a breaking change that we would not normally take in a minor release. But given our options, this change put us in the best place to go forward with our support for Visual Studio.
Of course, there were also many bug fixes that Bob does a great job describing in the release notes. If any of those look interesting, or you want to be running the best WiX v3 release available, I encourage you to upgrade today.
Happy Cinco de Mayo! Drink some tequila (my favorite!) for me. I'll be over here coding away.
