RobMensching.com LLC Consulting Services FAQ
RobMensching.com LLC provides consulting services to create high quality software installation packages. Below are several leading questions intended to provide insight into not only what services are available but how I do business.
Of course, if you have any questions please feel free to email consulting@robmensching.com any time.
- Q: Do you really offer free design reviews of our installation packages?
- A: Yes. Often an expert pair of eyes can find issues that ICE validation just won't catch.
- Q: How do I get one those free expert reviews?
- A: First, contact me at consulting@robmensching.com and introduce yourself and your product. I'll request a .zip file with your product's .msi and/or .wxs files. After an initial review of the requested files, I will provide an estimate when you can expect a document of your product's installation evaluation. What you do with the document after that is up to you. :)
- Q: Why provide free reviews?
- A: Two reasons. First, I believe they are a great way to determine if there are further opportunities to work together. Second, and this my sound sappy but it is true, I want to help improve the state of software installation. Finding issues before products are released is good for you and good for your customers.
- Q: My product contains a client application and a server application. Can you help with both those?
- A: Yes. I have experience working with both client and server installations.
- Q: Can you help with Linux or Macintosh installation questions?
- A: If the question is a general software installation question then I would be happy to take a shot at it. However, the depth of my experience is on the Windows platform and focused on the Windows Installer and WiX toolset.
- Q: I heard you were the first to release Open Source software from Microsoft. Would you share your experiences with my organization so we can learn more about Open Source?
- A: Absolutely. The only thing I like talking about more than software installation is the appropriate use of Open Source.
