WiX Toolset surpasses 300 sponsors

Eight months ago WiX had 99 sponsors. Today it has 304. The Open Source Maintenance Fee is working and ready.

First, I want to thank each of you that braved your corporate procurement system to pay the OSMF. I know this is a new process and new processes mean friction, especially when the concept is a bit novel and goes against the conventional wisdom, like “OSS is free!” So, thank you. Each of you has helped renew my belief in the future of Open Source.

Second, I’m still collecting feedback but with the release of the OSMF EULA v1.1 everything has been very stable. I continue to evaluate how to smooth the procurement process. But if you are a maintainer, I can now say the Open Source Maintenance Fee is ready for broad adoption. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to the OSMF Discussions or ping me directly.

Finally, back in October when I last checked-in, I compared WiX’s 99 Sponsors to Vite’s 52. I will reiterate that this is not an apples-to-apples comparison but for fun I went and checked again. Vite gained 10. I also found it funny that my company is the first sponsor displayed in the list. We sponsor Vite because we use it at FireGiant and we choose to pay our dependencies as if they required a maintenance fee, even if they do not.

So, we’re not done but this feels like solid progress. Until next time, keep coding. You know I am.
